  • A young Arkansas family faced horrific violence while hiking
  • Police acted fast to catch the alleged killer and protect the community
  • Our justice system must keep predators off the street

Sometimes the worst evil strikes where we least expect it. An Arkansas family, just looking for a peaceful day on the trails at Devil’s Den State Park, became victims of something no one should ever experience. Police say a schoolteacher named Andrew James McGann attacked and killed Clinton and Cristen Brink in front of their two little girls.

Arkansas State Police tracked McGann down to a barbershop in Springdale, arresting him with little trouble. According to officers, “Although everyone is innocent until proven guilty, we did confirm this morning that the suspect’s DNA is a positive match to the DNA recovered at the crime scene.” McGann reportedly confessed and police found evidence in his home related to the crime.

Investigators say there was no sign McGann knew the Brinks. Col. Mike Hagar explained the details, “It appears to be a completely random event. We have no reason to believe there was any known association between our suspect and our victims.” He also mentioned that the blood found at the scene led authorities to McGann, who had injuries from the attack.

Authorities shared that Clinton Brink was attacked first. His wife, Cristen, managed to lead her daughters away to safety before returning to help her husband. Sadly, she lost her life trying to save him. “We believe that the mother took them to safety and then returned to help her husband,” Major Stacey Rhodes said. The bravery of this mom deserves to be remembered.

Police say they received more than 500 tips during the investigation and are not looking for any other suspects right now. McGann has no adult criminal record on file, though some former colleagues reported past concerns about his behavior at work. His previous school district said that he failed to meet expectations for classroom management, and he later resigned.

McGann had just moved and hadn’t started his new teaching job yet. After the murders, police described him as wearing a long-sleeved shirt, dark pants, a cap, and sunglasses. They said he drove away in a dark car and escaped into the nearby city before being caught.

The trail at Devil’s Den Park was shut down while authorities searched for clues. Col. Hagar praised law enforcement for their quick work and said, “Because of their hard work and investigative skill, we were able to take a monster off the streets, and bring relief to those two precious girls, and the rest of our citizens.” Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders emphasized, “Let there be no mistake – we do not tolerate violent crime in Arkansas. If you target innocent people, law enforcement will hunt you down and bring you to justice.”

The Brinks’ daughters were not hurt physically, but their lives have changed forever. The community continues to pray and offer support for the family, hoping the girls will find comfort with loved ones. This case is a heartbreaking reminder of the evil some people carry inside, and a call to stay vigilant and defend our families.

Devil’s Den is about 140 miles northwest of Little Rock and draws families for hiking and exploring God’s creation. Now, many are asking how such a senseless act could happen on these quiet paths.

Wyatt Matters

When innocent families can’t even enjoy a walk in the park without fear, something’s gone wrong in this country. We need strong law enforcement, clear moral standards, and communities that look out for their own. Folks in Middle America understand the value of faith, family, and standing up for the vulnerable—qualities we should cherish and protect. Let’s pray for the Brink girls and remember that it’s up to all of us to keep our neighborhoods safe and strong.

Does that really matter here. Evil is evil no matter your political views.

This family was from Montana not Arkansas.

In this same Surge Right, there was a poll-type question about whether Americans would be safer if all guns were banned. It would have been practical if this poor dude had taken a gun course and been carrying. So sad for his girls.

This heinous murder by a monster who should have been aborted by his mother is absolutely gruesome and devastating. It will never be possible to ban all guns, and it’s a terrible idea. Self-defense against such evil is a necessity. If all upstanding, law abiding citizens could carry self-defense weapons, there would probably be a decrease in crimes like these.
