January 1, Trump DOJ Drops Red Tape Fight Over Gun Suppressors

Wyatt’s Take

  • Trump DOJ refuses to waste tax dollars fighting a clear win for law-abiding gun owners.
  • Historic court ruling cuts pointless paperwork and lets Americans protect their hearing.
  • Every day the old rules stayed in place was another win for big government over common sense.

The Department of Justice under President Trump has decided not to appeal a federal court ruling that removes long-standing restrictions on firearm suppressors.

That decision means Americans who follow the law can now purchase suppressors without jumping through extra federal hoops that served no real safety purpose.

“The administration made the right call by respecting the court’s decision and putting an end to unnecessary regulation,” a DOJ spokesperson said.

Suppressors reduce noise and help prevent hearing damage for shooters, hunters, and instructors who spend hours on the range. The old rules treated these simple devices like dangerous weapons despite decades of evidence showing they are rarely used in crime.

With the appeal dropped, the market for legal suppressors is expected to grow quickly as manufacturers ramp up production and more states review their own laws.

Critics of the old system argued that the extra paperwork and fees only punished responsible citizens while doing nothing to stop criminals who ignore the law anyway.

The ruling also removes a layer of federal bureaucracy that many viewed as an overreach into a constitutionally protected activity.

Wyatt Matters

Middle America knows that honest folks who obey the law should not be treated like suspects every time they want to protect their hearing or safely enjoy the shooting sports that have been part of rural life for generations.
