January 1, Woman Arrested For Not Scanning All Items at Walmart Self-Checkout
A Michigan woman is being accused of stealing merchandise from Walmart by failing to scan all of her items at the store’s self-checkout.
Police said that workers from the loss prevention department at a Walmart in Alpena County noticed that TeddyJo Marie Fliam, 34, wasn’t scanning every item. When loss prevention workers confronted Fliam, she became agitated, denied the allegation, and left the store, according to Fox News.
The incident prompted store employees to review surveillance footage. The footage allegedly showed that Fliam had stolen more than $1,000 worth of Walmart merchandise since April by neglecting to scan all of her items at the self-checkout.
Police arrested Fliam at her home and charged her with first-degree retail fraud.
In 2019, Walmart implemented a system to mitigate self-checkout thefts known as Missed Scan Detection, using cameras and artificial intelligence to ensure that every bagged item has been scanned.
“Walmart is making a true investment to ensure the safety of our customers and associates,” a spokesperson said at the time. “Over the last three years, the company has invested over half a billion dollars in an effort to prevent, reduce and deter crime in our stores and parking lots. We are continuously investing in people, programs and technology to keep our stores and communities safe.”

I wonder why aat self nyone – including Walmart – would be surprised or shocked that someone would knowingly and willingly steal and pilfer.
I have always wondered how any store could control self checkout…short of a store associate stand with each and every patron. So many ways to beat the system…leaves temptation to surface. Deliberately neglecting to scan all items is made so easy..it is almost a challenge for some to not try and get away with it. No one oversees what is being scanned….or not. No one is looking to see if all items are taken out of the cart….no one looks to see what is UNDER the paid for items. Without bags…how much can you carry in your arms…..sticking one item into another…………on and on. Why would anyone be shocked stealing is going on….self check is an INVITATION!!

I don’t condone theft, but Walmart should be investing that half billion dollars into better employee wages. and for God Sakes put real people as check out cashiers. Your just stuffing your pockets with more profits. That goes for Lowes, Home Depot, grocery stores. Total BS making paying customers wait in line to save on wages.

Can’t imagine this WHITE female being charged with this crime, because, if she was black, not a single thing would be done…..
I believe it is called BLACK PRIVILEGE. It’s wrong for anyone to do this, but, the hypocrisy is disgusting, when it comes to blacks getting away with anything & everything…….

Look at it this way. The store had to make an example of someone. In today’s social climate whom would you rather deal with, an illegal, a black or middle age white woman?

I see a pattern here , It took 6 months of stealing before she was caught.
Walmart says: It invests in it’s employees,
I saw the same thing happened at Home Depot it took 6 months maybe that for an employee years ago to get caught.
Both stores say: They invest in their employees But to me they Don’t wanna believe an employee can and did steal merchandise.
I told my supervisor, assistant manager and even manager and Reported the Stealing to the Corporate Office, No one would believe me that the employee was stealing approximately $500 to $1,500 each night he worked, Oh at the time he got a higher full time job at another Co. And did Home Depot 2 or nights a week,
It took his accomplice to tell our in parking lot We hit the jackpot tonight.
An employee heard and in 2 minutes both were in cuffs.
I hate stealing, plus it causes prices to rise and that effects everyone.
Stores need to Honestly listen to their employees more.

“…We are continuously investing in people, programs and technology to keep our stores and communities safe.”; So says a Wal-Mart spokesperson. I’ll buy into part of of the spokesperson’s statement. Wal-mart has invested in programs and technology but they have neglected people. Just think of the thousands of people who have been replaced by these ‘programs and technology’.
I have made it my policy to refuse to use the self check-outs and will continue to do so.

SHE SHOULD HAVE PAID THE PRICE ON THE ITEMS – BUT, NOW PAYING THE PRICE IN JAIL……. SHE BELONGS TO MY GROUP THAT I CALL THE DUMB ADULTS OF THIS COUNTRY………..AND – MAN, DO WE HAVE A LOT OF THOSE RUNNING AROUND…..TOTALLY STUPID ADULTS. !!!
