January 1, Welfare State Blamed For Minnesota Scandal
Wyatt’s Take
- Editorial says big welfare programs let fraud grow.
- Both major parties accused of ignoring the problem.
- Mainstream voices avoid blaming immigration policies.
The Wall Street Journal argued the real reason for fraud in Minnesota is the huge welfare system, not the folks coming in from other countries. They claim the system has too much money and too little oversight, making it easy for scammers to take advantage.
“With so much money and so many programs, this [state’s welfare benefits are] an open vault for scammers — especially when politicians are loathe to police fraud because doing so might be called ‘racist’ or ‘anti-poor.’ But it’s also corrupting for beneficiaries who have an incentive to remain on the dole rather than build an independent life.”
Republicans are called out too—while they complain about the cheats, the paper says they don’t tackle the system that makes cheating tempting. Instead, both parties look out for their own short-term interests, ignoring the biggest problems.
Big business and some in the GOP have reasons to keep letting more low-wage workers in—more workers help companies and investors get richer, but regular Americans end up getting less.
“Is there waste, fraud, and abuse in every state? Absolutely. I don’t think this is endemically a Democratic [Party] problem, but the scale of it is gargantuan in these Democratic states that if the Republicans don’t take advantage of it, I think it is a huge political missed calculation… If you want to have a chance in the midterms, and if you generally want to have a chance to level-set the country, you must take this and run with it… If it does die on the vine, it is the beginning of the end of the American Empire.”
Some see this crisis as a rallying call for politicians to crack down, not just to save taxpayer money but maybe to win elections. But the deeper cultural issues—like views on work, loyalty, and community in different groups—don’t even get discussed in the big media’s take.
While government and party elites point fingers, the trouble keeps hurting working families. It’s the same old story—regular folks pay the price.
Keep up with the facts nobody else will talk about—stand up and share this with your neighbors.
Wyatt Matters
Folks here know that when government gets too big, accountability disappears and working families get left holding the bag. Honest work, community trust, and fairness matter more than party politics or fancy headlines.

Yes, the jobs are out there…but so many are content to be on the government dollar, they don’t care to work. They want to stay on the government dollar. It’s worse in the Democratic states because they want them to stay dependant on the government, that’s their voters, throw them a bone every once in awhile, while I’m from a red state, we have our share here too. For one thing, food stamps should be for food only..not a card you can draw funds with..it’s disheartening to see someone pay for their food with food stamps, then pay for their booze with a wallet full of cash. There needs to be an accountability and a time period to end the freebies. I don’t mind helping someone who truly needs it, but so many are lying and cheating the system.

Probably 65% of A’holes on snap and other freebies have absolutely no business being on them and a hell of a lot of them come from other countries ILLEGALLY and still get them. WTF
