January 1, WATCH: DeSantis Goes After Fauci’s ‘Flip Flops’ in New Campaign Ad
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) took aim at Dr. Anthony Fauci in a new campaign ad, highlighting the infectious disease expert’s “flip flopping.”
The video includes a montage of Fauci’s interviews where he gives inconsistent guidance regarding masks, vaccination, in-person learning, and other COVID-related comments.
“DR. FAUCI…HE FLIPS, HE FLOPS,” the ad reads. “BUT HE CAN’T STOP FREEDOM IN FLORIDA.”
DeSantis is selling the actually flip-flops seen in the video, that are red and emblazoned with “Freedom over Fauci” on the strap.
Conservative outlets praised the governor’s new ad, but liberal pundits declared it “the height of stupidity.”
“The stupidity in this one is very strong,” said Joe Scarborough, host of MSNBC’s Morning Joe. “I guess stupid people will like the ad.”
“To attack a guy because, well, the realities of a virus change as the virus changes as the virus moves, as the virus, you know, mutates. It just — again, the height of stupidity. It got him elected last time. I suppose it will get him elected again this time, but just, again, so stupid. It should make your teeth hurt.”
