January 1, Warren Has Harsh Words for McCarthy: “Liar and a Traitor”

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is facing scrutiny over leaked audio, wherein he says he would advise former President Donald Trump to resign following the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

In the audio recordings obtained by The New York Times, McCarthy says, “The only discussion I would have with (Trump) is I think this (impeachment) will pass, and it would be my recommendation that he should resign.”

The recording contradicts a prior statement from McCarthy’s spokesperson, who said, “McCarthy never said he’d call Trump to say he should resign.”

“Kevin McCarthy is a liar and a traitor,” Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) told CNN in a recent interview. “Shame on Kevin McCarthy.”

McCarthy denounced the report as “totally false and wrong” in a statement posted to Twitter.
