Walmart recalls essential-oil aromatherapy product for ‘rare and dangerous’ bacteria
The Consumer Product Safety Commission says Walmart is recalling an essential-oil aromatherapy spray for a “rare and dangerous bacteria” that can cause a potentially deadly condition.
According to the CPSC, Walmart is recalling roughly 3,900 bottles of its Better Homes and Gardens brand Essential Oil Infused Aromatherapy Room Spray with Gemstones due to the discovery of the bacteria Burkholderia pseudomallei. The bacteria is linked with melioidosis, a potentially fatal condition.
Officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating four confirmed cases of melioidosis and two deaths, including that of a child. The cases occurred across four states: Kansas, Minnesota, Texas, and Georgia.
