  • A 79-year-old Vietnam veteran protected his neighbor from a naked intruder in Los Angeles.
  • The veteran suffered two broken legs but still stopped the suspect.
  • The community said he acted out of self-defense for his neighbor’s safety.

Early Friday, a Vietnam vet was injured but stood his ground when a naked man broke into a Los Angeles home. The veteran, age 79, rushed to help his female neighbor when she was chased from her own house by a screaming trespasser.

Police said the suspect drove into the area, stripped naked, and began causing a commotion before breaking into the woman’s residence. He reportedly grabbed signs and chased the woman outside. The veteran, who is also the landlord, confronted the intruder to protect her.

“He tells the suspect to leave, warns him that he has a gun,” said LAPD Capt. Warner Castillo. “Grabs the 79-year-old man, lifts him up and throws him on the ground.”

Despite both legs being broken from the attack, the veteran fought back as the suspect tried picking him up again. That’s when the vet shot the intruder three times, ending the assault, police said.

A local resident described the Vietnam vet as “very sweet, very kind, gentle,” adding, “To hear he shot somebody would be out of self-defense.”

He’s now recovering in the hospital after surgery. Residents say the suspect may have tried breaking into nearby homes before. Police are continuing their investigation, and no charges have been announced against the veteran as he was defending himself and his neighbor.

That veteran did the right thing. Nice going! And they want to ban gun ownership. Can you imagine what would have happened to that woman if the only option was to call in a negotiator? Again, nice going fellow veteran!
