January 1, Vance Slams Walz Over Military Service Lies at Veterans of Foreign War Event

Senator JD Vance, the Republican vice presidential nominee and a seasoned Marine veteran, laid into the Democratic vice presidential hopeful, Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota, for his deceit concerning his military service. This took place at a Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post in Pennsylvania, last Thursday.

Vance expressed his distaste without mincing words: “We’re not attacking his honorable service. We’re attacking the dishonesty about that service. Dishonesty is far from honorable, it’s the epitome of dishonor, and due to this, Tim Walz is unfit to be the vice president of the United States.”

Walz, who served 24 years as a reservist with the Army National Guard, has proven himself to be dishonest on numerous occasions, making unsubstantiated claims about his military rank and war experiences. Especially egregious is his assertion that he “retired command sergeant major,” or an E-9, even though he actually retired a rank below – as a sergeant major, an E-8.

Another area where Walz has played fast and loose with the truth involves his service record. He has stated that he was “in war,” although his military record shows no combat deployment. He has also inappropriately labeled himself a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), despite having no service record in Afghanistan. Furthermore, Walz insinuated he “came back” from war, despite his tours being limited to Europe.

Adding to the list of his deceit, Walz decided to retire from the Army once he got wind of his unit’s pending deployment to Iraq. As then-command sergeant major of his unit, he had under his command about 100 soldiers. Instead of leading them into war, he opted to retire early and embark on a political journey, running for Congress.

To save face, the Harris-Walz campaign vaguely mentioned that Walz “misspoke” when he claimed he carried a weapon “in war.” They haven’t addressed any other false claims he made and instead tried to deflect by accusing Vance of attacking Walz’s service.

Senator Vance summarized the situation aptly: “The victims here are the veterans whose service is being shamed because the man who aspires to be their vice president is resorting to lies instead of truth.”

The senator, standing beside a veteran at the event, emphasized that each person present has made sacrifices for this country. He reaffirmed that every veteran deserves recognition and honor for their service, regardless of whether they saw combat or not.

This controversy, however, is not about disparaging anyone’s service, including that of Tim Walz. Vance clarified: “This is about criticizing dishonesty and questioning Kamala Harris’s judgment in choosing to stand by a man who has insulted our veterans by lying about his service.”

He further called upon Harris to answer pertinent questions before the media: “If Kamala Harris wishes to lead this country and the millions of active and reserve service members along with veterans, she needs to explain why Tim Walz lied.”

I find it ironic that Walz feels he needs to embellish his military service. If he isn’t truthful about that-how can he be truthful about his concern for active duty/reservists who place themselves under his watch. A veteran of 22 yrs.-it is scary to imagine the outcome .. .. .

The military has legal avenues that are to be followed when someone does stolen valor. So why isn’t Vance, the military following through with the charges? Is this another case of the law is only for certain individuals, but when a person reaches a certain level in society the laws and rules no longer apply?
