Wyatt’s Take

  • Trump’s team promotes a tough ICE attorney to deputy chief.
  • Democrats and left-wing protesters push to weaken ICE enforcement.
  • Trump says tougher action is needed to keep American communities safe.

Charles Wall, a veteran ICE attorney, was named deputy director of the agency. Homeland Security chief Kristi Noem made the announcement on social media.

Wall steps in as Madison Sheahan leaves the post to run for Congress in Ohio. Wall has worked for ICE for 14 years, most recently as its top legal advisor.

“For the last year, Mr. Wall served as ICE’s Principal Legal Advisor, playing a key role in helping us deliver historic results in arresting and removing the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens from American neighborhoods,” Noem stated.

She called him a leader who will focus on prioritizing the removal of dangerous criminals: “Mr. Wall has served as an ICE attorney for 14 years and is a forward leaning, strategic thinker who understands the importance of prioritizing the removal of murderers, rapists, pedophiles, gang members, and terrorists from our country.”

Noem said, “I look forward to working with him in his new role to make America safe again.” Wall now leads more than 20,000 ICE employees nationwide.

Sheahan, a former state GOP director, now aims for a congressional seat long held by Democrat Marcy Kaptur. Her campaign could shake up the race in Ohio’s 9th district.

The move comes during heated protests and calls from Democrat lawmakers to defund ICE after a fatal incident in Minneapolis. Federal immigration operations are ramping up in Minnesota, drawing more protests.

“We cannot and we should not continue to fund agencies that operate with impunity, that escalate violence and that undermine the very freedoms this country claims to uphold,” Rep. Ilhan Omar said during a press briefing.

President Trump responded by warning he could use the Insurrection Act if Minnesota leaders fail to address the clashes targeting ICE agents.
