Wyatt’s Take

  • Trump sees the EU bid as a threat to American workers
  • Heavy tariffs are on the table if Canada plays games
  • Canada should focus on fair trade, not new alliances

President Donald Trump called the possibility of Canada becoming the first associate member of the European Union (EU) “laughable,” and warned of “heavy tariffs” for the union if the move signals ill intentions.

“It is laughable that Canada would even consider such a move.”

Trump added that any bad intentions behind the idea would be met with serious consequences.

“If there is bad intention, there will be heavy tariffs.”
