January 1, Trump Sends Troops to Quell L.A. Unrest

This comes after a weekend of rioting that tore through parts of L.A., and another 2,000 troops plus 700 Marines were already helping out. Now, California’s leaders, like Governor Gavin Newsom, aren’t happy and have filed a lawsuit against President Trump, arguing he overstepped his authority. But the President can send in the troops in certain situations, and he did so to keep the peace.

Governor Newsom did send 800 more state and local officers, saying it was to clean up after Trump. But let’s be honest, the chaos was happening before the troops even arrived. Mayor Karen Bass is also blaming D.C., while local police are doing their best to handle things on the ground.

The protests turned into riots last week after some federal immigration raids arrested illegal immigrants, including some with gun and drug charges. Things got worse when agitators started throwing rocks and shooting fireworks at officers, and many rioters even waved Mexican flags while setting things on fire. At the end of the day, 42 troublemakers ended up behind bars.

Downtown L.A. is now working to clean up the mess left behind. Rioters messed up planter boxes, signs, and benches, looted stores, and broke windows. But that won’t stop the city from getting back on its feet.

And over in San Francisco, more rioting is happening, with folks there also taking to the streets against ICE. About 150 people got arrested, and two police officers got hurt.

So, folks, President Trump stepped up to help keep L.A. safe, and despite what some local leaders say, law and order are crucial for keeping our cities standing strong.
