January 1, Trump Sends National Guard to Crack Down
Wyatt’s Take
- Trump sends National Guard troops to help ICE fight illegal immigration in 19 states.
- White House says this plan is focused on border security, not just crime in Washington.
- Trump sets his sights on tackling crime next in Chicago and New York.
The Trump administration is sending up to 1,700 National Guard troops to 19 states to help with illegal immigration enforcement. States like Texas are expected to see the largest military presence as federal action intensifies.
The Defense Department says troops will help ICE with things like taking fingerprints and collecting DNA from those in custody. Trump wants to use the Guard as a key part of his plan to keep American cities safe.
The president said, “Creo que Chicago será nuestro próximo objetivo. Y luego ayudaremos con Nueva York.”
He criticized Chicago’s mayor and promised a hard line on crime in cities governed by Democrats.
The Biden administration has not commented on this latest move. Trump insists his proposals are about restoring safety and order, especially in cities hit hardest by crime and illegal immigration.
