January 1, Trump Says Russia Will Face Sanctions Without Peace Agreement

On Friday morning, former President Donald Trump talked about thinking of putting strong actions on Russia. He said this is because Russia is hitting Ukraine hard in their ongoing fight.
Trump wants to add big banking actions and other types of penalties on Russia until they agree to stop the fighting and make peace.
He wrote on Truth Social, “Russia is really pounding Ukraine right now. I’m looking at big sanctions until they sit down for peace talks. Russia and Ukraine, sit at the table now before it gets worse. Thank you!”
On Thursday, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that the Trump administration is ready to put more penalties on Russia. He said, “The last administration didn’t go hard enough on Russia’s energy stuff. We’re ready to go big if it helps get peace.”
President Trump has dealt with Russia before. Back in 2018, he put actions on some Russian leaders and companies to get tough. And in 2019, he gave the Treasury Department more power to stop giving Russia loans.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, is asking for calmer skies over Ukraine. He said Russia should stop attacking and fired many missiles and drones at Ukraine. Even though Ukraine shot some of them down, they want Russia to stop for real peace.

The recent talk about the situation between Russia and Ukraine is concerning. President Trump is thinking about adding big penalties on Russia to help stop the fighting. He believes that putting pressure on Russia could bring them to the negotiating table for peace talks with Ukraine. This idea is about using strong actions to encourage peace, which is very important for both countries involved.
The U.S. Treasury Secretary mentioned that more penalties could be ready if it would help bring peace. In the past, the Trump administration has taken actions against Russia, such as when they put penalties on some Russian leaders and companies. These actions were aimed at discouraging bad behavior and encouraging better conduct. By using big penalties again, the hope is to make Russia think twice about continuing the attacks on Ukraine.
Ukraine’s president is also asking for a stop to the attacks. He wants there to be no more missiles and drones fired at his country. Ukraine is trying to defend itself, but it would be better if Russia agreed to stop the attacks entirely for the sake of real peace. Everyone wants the conflict to end, and through actions like these, both sides might find a way to sit down and talk about peace.
