January 1, Trump Drops Tariffs for 90 Days—But Excludes China

Published

President Donald Trump just made a big announcement about tariffs! For the next 90 days, most countries won’t have the big tariffs they used to. They’ll only have a 10% tariff instead of what it was before. But this doesn’t include China. China got a big tariff increase to 125%.

The White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, said this 90-day “pause” is to help with upcoming trade talks with more than 75 countries. President Trump said many countries are ready to talk with no hard feelings toward the U.S., which is a huge win for America!

Right after Trump announced this, the stock market went up a lot. The S&P 500 went up 5.7%, the Dow went up 5%, and the Nasdaq went up almost 7%. That’s really good for our economy!

While other countries are getting a bit of a break, Trump decided to be tougher on China because he believes they haven’t been respectful to the world markets. China tried to fight back before with high tariffs of their own, but Trump isn’t backing down.

President Trump shared on Truth Social that maybe soon China will learn they can’t keep taking advantage of the U.S. and other countries.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Trump showed “great courage” and it’s his strong strategies that have brought all these countries to the table.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said he was with the President when he wrote a powerful post on Truth. Lutnick added that most of the world wants to work with Trump to fix global trade, but China seems to want to go its own way.

This is a big moment for America, and it shows Trump’s leadership is making a real difference!

Wyatt Matters!

President Trump’s recent decision to lower tariffs for most countries to 10% for 90 days is seen as a smart move. It gives America a chance to have more friendly talks with over 75 countries. These countries might be more willing to negotiate because the tariffs are lower now. It feels like a good plan to make trading with other countries easier and better for everyone involved.

The stock market reacted really well to this news, which is very promising for the economy. When the stock market goes up, it can mean good things for businesses and for people who have money invested. It shows that people believe this change in tariffs might help America grow and do well in trading with other countries. Seeing the S&P 500, Dow, and Nasdaq all rise means there’s a lot of hope and optimism for what’s ahead.

However, the increase in tariffs for China to 125% is a different story. This seems to be part of a serious strategy to make China think twice about their trade practices. President Trump thinks China hasn’t been fair in the market, and he wants to change that. By being tougher on China, maybe it will help make trade more balanced. It’s a bold step, but Trump believes it is necessary to protect America’s interests.
