January 1, Trump Comforts Murdered Student’s Family, Blasts Biden’s Immigration Stance

Former President Donald Trump had a heartfelt meeting with the family of Laken Riley, a nursing student tragically murdered, at a campaign rally in Georgia on Saturday night. The New York Post reported that Trump was seen embracing the grieving family members before taking the stage in Rome, a city located just outside Atlanta.

Riley’s life was cut short in late February when her body was found near a lake on the University of Georgia (UGA) campus. The young woman was allegedly beaten to death by an illegal migrant, a stark reminder of the immigration issues plaguing our country.

“Our country is at a crossroads. This is the choice!” Trump tweeted, emphasizing the importance of this issue.

The campaign of the prospective Republican presidential nominee distributed posters featuring Riley’s photo at the rally. These posters bore phrases such as “Say her name” and “Remember our angels,” ABC News reported. This was a poignant reminder of the lives lost due to unchecked illegal immigration.

Trump didn’t hesitate to call out President Joe Biden for his misstep during the 2024 State of The Union address. Biden incorrectly referred to the deceased 22-year-old as “Lincoln” instead of Laken, a mistake that occurred after Republican Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene heckled him to “say her name.”

“He’s got no remorse, he’s got no regret. He’s got no empathy,” Trump said of Biden. “No compassion, and worst of all, he has no intention of stopping the deadly invasion that stole precious Laken’s beautiful, American life.”

Trump’s rally in Georgia was not just a political event, but also a platform to express empathy for the victims of illegal aliens. He acknowledged the presence of Laken Riley’s family and friends, sharing in their grief.

Allyson Phillips, Riley’s mother, expressed her disappointment with Biden in a Facebook comment. She wrote, “Biden does not even KNOW my child’s name — it’s pathetic! If you are going to say her name (even when forced to do so) at least say the right name!” This sentiment echoes the frustration of many Americans who feel ignored by the current administration.

Biden apologized on Saturday for referring to Riley’s alleged murderer as “an illegal” during his State of The Union speech. He stated that he should have used the term “undocumented” instead. Speaking to MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart, Biden claimed that unlike Trump, he didn’t want to “treat any of these people with disrespect.” This statement, however, does little to comfort those who have lost loved ones due to illegal immigration.

Why It Matters (op-ed)

The tragic murder of Laken Riley highlights the dire consequences of unchecked illegal immigration. Former President Trump’s empathetic response at the Georgia rally is a stark contrast to President Biden’s insensitive misstep during the State of the Union address.

It’s disappointing to see Biden prioritize political correctness by apologizing for using the term “illegal” instead of “undocumented” while failing to properly address the pain and suffering of the victim’s family. This incident exemplifies the current administration’s disconnect from the American people and their valid concerns about illegal immigration.
