  • A 17-year-old was taken into custody by police.
  • This follows other violent incidents involving teens nearby.

New York City woke up to news of violence in Times Square after a shooting sent three people to the hospital. Police quickly detained a 17-year-old suspect at the scene.

The gunfire broke out just after 1:00 a.m. near 44th Street and 7th Avenue. People were sent running as shots rang through this so-called “gun-free” zone.

An 18-year-old woman and two men, aged 19 and 65, were shot and rushed to Bellevue Hospital. Police say their injuries are not life-threatening and they’re stable.

According to authorities, the violence followed a dispute between two people. So far, no word yet on what started the argument and no charges have been filed as of early Saturday.

Footage posted online shows chaos, heavy police activity, and paramedics rushing to help. One man was seen lying beside an SUV before being taken away in an ambulance. A shaken woman left the vehicle but wasn’t hurt. Police haven’t confirmed if she or anyone in that car was a victim.

Officers say the investigation is still ongoing, with no further details yet released.

Times Square has seen gun violence with teens involved before. Earlier this year, a 15-year-old was arrested after shooting a tourist and firing at police officers nearby. In April, a food vendor got shot just blocks away following an argument with young people.

America’s heartland families watching from afar can see what happens when crime spirals and accountability slips away. Stay tuned as this case unfolds.
