January 1, Teenage Gunmen Storm San Diego Mosque — Hero Guard Saves 140 Kids From Massacre

Wyatt’s Take
- Two teenage gunmen opened fire at the Islamic Center of San Diego, killing three people before turning weapons on themselves
- Heroic mosque security guard stopped attackers from reaching classrooms packed with 140 children — they came within 15 feet of doorways
- San Diego Police Department vows increased ‘visible presence’ at all houses of worship following the attack
A chilling attack at a San Diego mosque could have ended in unimaginable tragedy if not for the quick actions of a security guard who stood between armed teenage gunmen and 140 children attending classes.
Two teenage shooters stormed the Islamic Center of San Diego, opening fire and killing three people before the violence ended with both attackers taking their own lives. The terror could have been exponentially worse.
The mosque’s security guard confronted the armed teens as they advanced toward classrooms filled with young students. According to the San Diego Police Department, the gunmen came within just 15 feet of reaching the children before the guard’s intervention stopped their advance.
In those critical moments, one man’s courage prevented what law enforcement officials say could have been a massacre. The guard’s actions gave authorities time to respond and likely saved more than 100 young lives.
The San Diego Police Department held a press briefing to address the community’s concerns and outline their response. Officials pledged to maintain a heightened security posture at religious institutions across the city.
“We will have a more visible presence at houses of worship,” SDPD officials stated during the update.
The two teenage attackers ultimately turned their weapons on themselves as law enforcement closed in. Their identities and motives remain under investigation, though the SDPD has not yet released details about what may have driven the violence.
Three innocent people lost their lives in the shooting. Families are now grieving while trying to process how such violence could target a place of worship and come so close to their children.
Houses of worship across America have increasingly become targets in recent years, forcing religious communities of all faiths to invest in security measures once unthinkable. Many now employ armed guards, install security cameras, and conduct active shooter drills.
The Islamic Center of San Diego’s decision to have trained security on site proved to be a life-saving measure. Without that guard’s willingness to stand between evil and innocence, 140 families could be planning funerals instead of hugging their children tonight.
San Diego police continue their investigation into the shooting, working to piece together a timeline of events and determine whether any warning signs were missed. The department has asked anyone with information to come forward.
Wyatt Matters
When evil shows up with bad intentions, the only thing standing between the innocent and catastrophe is a good guy willing to fight back. This security guard didn’t run, didn’t freeze, didn’t wait for someone else to handle it. He stepped up when it mattered most. That’s the kind of courage that saves lives. That’s the kind of courage America was built on. Political leaders can debate policy all they want, but when danger comes knocking, it’s regular people making split-second decisions that determine who lives and who dies. This guard understood that, and 140 families get to tuck their kids into bed tonight because of it.

These were teens, who legally cannot posses or own firearms until age 21 in California. A different article said multiple guns were found in one of the suspects homes. Were they propey secured?
Proof again that it is the mind and heart of the person holding the weapon that determines what will happen. We need to focus on that side.of the equation
