January 1, Tears of Triumph as Breezy Johnson Strikes Gold

Wyatt’s Take
- American skier Breezy Johnson wins gold, making history for Team USA.
- Her win comes after years of setbacks and tough comebacks.
- Emotional anthem moment shows what this victory means for our country.
Breezy Johnson stood proud and tearful during the national anthem after grabbing gold in the women’s downhill. Her time of 1:36.10 beat Germany’s Emma Aicher by just four-hundredths of a second, with Italy’s Sofia Goggia taking bronze.
Johnson’s gold is only the second ever for U.S. women’s downhill, 16 years after Lindsey Vonn got the first. Earlier that day, Vonn crashed out, ending her big comeback hopes.
Johnson has faced her own share of setbacks, including a knee injury that took her out of the 2022 Olympics and a 14-month suspension from WADA in 2024. She finished seventh in the downhill and fourteenth in the Super G at the 2018 Olympics.
This win is Johnson’s first trip to the Olympic medal stand, and she made it count with gold.
Patriotism, grit, and comeback spirit—this is what Team USA stands for. Watch Breezy’s anthem moment and remember what heartland America can do when the odds are tough.
