The U.S. has confirmed its first official monkeypox cases of 2022, as an outbreak has spread to at least 12 countries, including Canada and Australia.

President Joe Biden said that the recent uptick in monkeypox cases is “something that everybody should be concerned about.”

Here are the symptoms that are associated with the beginning of monkeypox, according to the CDC:

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Muscle aches
  • Backache
  • Swollen lymph nodes (AKA lymphadenopathy)
  • Chills
  • Exhaustion

The CDC says that patients typically develop a rash within one to three days after the fever. The rash starts on the face and then spreads to other body parts.
