Wyatt’s Take

  • Abigail Spanberger launched her campaign ad promising to end “political nonsense.”
  • Critics say her actions have made life harder for regular Virginians.
  • Battle over law enforcement and financial disclosures heats up in governor’s race.

Abigail Spanberger, a Democrat hoping to succeed Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, released her first television ad Thursday.

“Too many politicians talk when they should listen.”

“And divide instead of unite.”

“Enough is enough.”

“I’m Abigail Spanberger.”

“I believe that public service is too important for political nonsense.”

Spanberger talked about her time in law enforcement and the CIA.

“When I was in law enforcement and then working counterterrorism at CIA, we didn’t do politics.”

“We did our jobs.”

“I broke down some of the divides, stood up to both parties and was named the most bipartisan member of Congress from Virginia.”

She promised.

“As governor, I’ll work to lower costs, let people keep more of their money and make Virginia schools the best in the nation.”

She faces Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears in the coming election.

The Earle-Sears campaign shot back, blaming Spanberger for higher costs and rising crime.

Peyton Vogel, Earle-Sears’s press secretary, said

“The dishonesty is astounding. Spanberger spent years in Congress casting votes that made life in America more expensive, more dangerous, and more chaotic.”

“Now she’s banking on slick TV ads to rewrite her history, but Virginians aren’t buying it – they can spot a Washington fraud when they see one.”

Spanberger has also been criticized for her statements after an ICE raid in Charlottesville that led to arrests of two illegal immigrants.

She said

“I think what we’ve seen most shocking, including here in Charlottesville, has been cases where people haven’t provided identification and have been in some cases masked and in plain clothes.”

Earle-Sears’s team responded

“Abigail Spanberger’s outrage over criminal illegal immigrants being taken off our streets is everything Virginians need to know about what kind of governor she’d be — criminals first, victims last.”

There are also claims that Spanberger failed to include her trustee role in financial disclosures during her time in Congress.

The Earle-Sears campaign called these

“a calculated lie.”

Spanberger’s campaign said the only asset in the trust was her home, which did not require disclosure.

November’s election will test if Virginians are ready for more of the same or want real change.

Wyatt Matters

Virginians know the value of straight talk and honest work. In a time when politicians promise the world, Middle America doesn’t want empty words—just someone who puts families first and keeps our communities safe.
