January 1, South Carolina Rep Faces Calls to Resign Over Comments About White Constituents

South Carolina state Rep. Krystle Matthews (D) is facing pressure to resign after an activist group released audio of Matthews making disparaging remarks about white people.
Matthews, who is also currently vying for a U.S. Senate seat against incumbent Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), made controversial comments about her constituents that were secretly recorded and released by activist group Project Veritas.
“You ought to know who you’re dealing with,” Matthews said in the recorded conversation. “You’ve got to treat [white people] like sh-t. That’s the only way they’ll respect you.”
Matthews can also be heard bragging about keeping her constituents “under her thumbs” and not tolerating “white sh-t.”
South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Drew McKissick called Matthews’ remarks “overly racist.”
“This is overtly racist. Point blank. Period. What happens when a white family in her district needs help? Does Matthews assist them, or does she treat them like crap,” McKissick asked. “The fact that question even has to be asked is more than enough to call for her to resign.”
Matthews told the Associated Press that the audio was edited from a “tongue-in-cheek” exchange that didn’t accurately reflect her sentiments. She dismissed Project Veritas as a “satirical MAGA-powered news outlet.”
However, even Democrats have called for Matthews to resign.
“If any of our white counterparts had said the same thing with regards to blacks, the minority community, including myself, would be up in arms calling for that member’s immediate resignation,” said state Rep. Justin Bamberg (D).
As of this reporting, Matthews says she has no plans to resign.

in south carolina where i live i do prefer people who are bigoted to be overt about it. that way we all know where we stand. i do not want this woman to resign. her bigotry should be on parade for all the world to see. she thinks being mean to people gains you respect. nothing could be further from the truth.

Unless the majority of Ms. Matthews constituents are racist minorities, it is highly unlikely she will get enough votes in any campaign. It’s nearly impossible that any White people will vote for her, and improbable that any non-racist minorities will.

African Americans are a classless race, we have tolerated their behavior for what, I don’t know? It’s certainly a way to finally see them for who they really are, give them enough rope and they always hang themselves! African Americans are never satisfied like other human beings, they want more, let them have more and watch it deteriorate! Like a city with African American leaders, they annex a certain area where white people have left, and it turns to rubble, it’s a vicious-cycle that circulates, in 20 years or so, white people buy up the area and it becomes prosperous again, then here they come again! Look at sports, ESPN, afraid of lawsuits they practically turn it over to African Americans, and you have chaos, shouting over each other to make their points, to the extent that white people can’t understand what they are saying, and it’s down right annoying! Then there is this systematic racism with a BET-channel, Black Miss America, Black people this, and Black people that! MSNBC Joy Reid, enough said! This Country is like the annexed city limits, circulating!

Certainly she should resign if not charged with fomenting racism. There is no excuse whatsoever for her comments, what if White people said this or a White congressman? The Democrats would call for immediate resignation no questions asked.
