Wyatt’s Take

  • A Texas woman got thrown from a Colorado mountain coaster and dragged down the track.
  • Her husband had to haul her off the rails himself with nobody coming to help.
  • State officials shut that ride and another one while they investigate.

A Texas woman is laid up in a hospital after a mountain coaster ride went bad in Colorado. She broke a rib, collapsed a lung, hurt her brain, and wrecked a shoulder that needed surgery.

Nicki Parker stayed buckled in her seat belt. The Rocky Mountain Coaster at Copper Mountain Resort kept rolling anyway.

She got yanked from the seat and dragged along the track. Her lawyer Trent Ongert of Bloch Ongert Injury Law described the horror.

“It was actually wrapped around her and pulled her, and she was dragged along the track as it went down,”

Parker’s husband rode behind her. He tried to save her.

“She was lying on the track. He then had to get her out because there was nobody, no way to get to her,”

“They’re about 15 to 20 feet off the ground.”

Parker is still in the hospital. A sign by the ride says the cart will stop and beep if a seat belt comes undone.

It did not stop. Colorado’s amusement ride office is looking into what happened.

“We can confirm our Division of Oil & Public Safety is investigating an incident that happened on Copper Mountain’s Rocky Mountain Coaster on Monday, August 17, 2026,”

“One rider was injured in the incident. The Rocky Mountain Coaster is currently closed while the investigation continues. OPS has also told the manufacturer that they need to publish a safety bulletin and share it with all impacted operators.

“A similar ride operating at the Purgatory Resort is also closed pending the outcome of the investigation. Documentation involving the incident will not be made public until the investigation is complete.”

The coaster bills itself as one of the longest alpine rides in North America. It is shut down while officials poke around.

The resort put out a short statement.

“Our thoughts are with the guest, and we wish them a speedy recovery,”

Working families save up for a mountain trip like this. They should come home in one piece, not in a hospital bed.

Wyatt Matters

Hardworking Americans take their families to the mountains for a little fun. They should not come home broken. Common sense safety is not too much to ask.
