Wyatt’s Take

  • The Senate couldn’t end the government shutdown on their fifth try.
  • Both Republican and Democrat plans failed to pass a key vote.
  • Americans are left waiting while politicians argue.

Senators failed to end debate and reopen the government on Monday night. This marks the fifth time they could not agree to fund the government through November 21.

The chamber voted on two competing resolutions but neither reached the 60 votes needed. The Democratic proposal lost on a 45-50 vote, while the Republican plan failed 52-42.

“Republicans need to sit down, roll up their sleeves and negotiate with us so that we can preserve health care, fight for health care for the American people,” Schumer said. “Plain and simple, they got to sit down and talk to us.”

This is the second week of the shutdown. The House already approved its version but is waiting on the Senate.

The House will take no votes this week, adding more pressure on the Senate.

Our leaders need to remember who they work for. Out in Middle America, when bills don’t get paid, life gets harder. Folks here expect action and common sense from those in power, not endless arguing.
