Wyatt’s Take

  • Senate Republicans secured 50 votes to advance the SAVE Act.
  • Sen. Susan Collins joined as a co-sponsor, ensuring passage with VP JD Vance as tie-breaker.
  • Republicans now aim to push a talking filibuster to move the bill forward.

Senate Republicans have locked up all the support they need to pass the SAVE Act, with Sen. Susan Collins joining as co-sponsor late Friday.

This makes 50 definite votes, and with Vice President JD Vance, Republicans have the numbers to carry the bill through.

“We are now at 50 GUARANTEED VOTES — with JD Vance, that’s enough to PASS it after a talking filibuster!”

Party leaders still have to bring the bill to the floor, aiming to force Democrats into a talking filibuster rather than blocking it silently.

“We now need to convince Senate Republicans to ditch the Zombie Filibuster & enforce the Talking Filibuster on this bill!”

Conservatives in the Senate want to push hard, believing this procedure is key to advancing President Trump’s goals.

The SAVE Act already made it through the House by a slim margin, with just one Democrat crossing over in support.

Most voters stand with the contents of the bill, even though Democrats mostly tried to shoot it down.

“The fact is that nearly 90% of voters support: Requiring government-issued photo ID to vote. Requiring proof of citizenship when registering to vote for the first time.”

Pushing the SAVE Act ranks as a top priority for Republicans leading up to the next elections.
