January 1, Sen. Mitch McConnell Hospitalized with Concussion
ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY…
2000: The NASDAQ Composite stock market index peaks at 5132.52, signaling the beginning of the end of the dot-com boom.
Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell (KY) is in the hospital “for a few days of observation and treatment” after he suffered a concussion on Wednesday evening, his spokesperson confirmed.
The Kentucky Republican was at a dinner for the Senate Leadership Fund at the Waldorf Astoria Washington DC when he tripped and fell.
On Thursday, a McConnell spokesperson said the 81-year-old lawmaker is receiving treatment for a concussion and “is grateful to the medical professionals for their care and to his colleagues for their warm wishes.”
McConnell’s spokesperson did not specify how long the GOP leader is expected to be absent from the Senate.
Other lawmakers reached across the aisle to extend their well wishes to McConnell, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.).
“I joined every single one of my colleagues in wishing Leader McConnell a speedy and full recovery,” Schumer said.
President Joe Biden said he and first lady Jill Biden wish McConnell “a speedy recovery” and “look forward to seeing him back on the Senate floor.”
This is not the first time McConnell has had to seek medical treatment after a fall. In 2019, he underwent surgery to repair a fractured shoulder he sustained after tripping and falling in his Kentucky home.
McConnell recently became the longest-serving Senate leader, having been first elected in 1984.

No great loss he should have retired earlier. One of the many problems of longevity in congress, that’s why we need term limits.

I don’t wish ill of anyone. Mitch should Retire. Mitch’s siding in with Chuck Schumer over Tucker Carlson’s release of the Jan. 6th video, is a perfect example of deceit and incompetence. The American Public, wants the truth. All avenues should be explored.

These politicians should have a forced retirement just like us peons have. 81 years old! Give me a break. Biden and McConnell are way too old to serve. They just want to keep their paychecks coming.
