January 1, SC GOP Rivals Trade Blistering Crime Allegations
Wyatt’s Take
- Nancy Mace claims Alan Wilson is too easy on criminals and won’t stand up for victims.
- Wilson fires back, saying his record shows he’s tough on child predators and crime.
- The Republican governor’s race is heating up with sharp personal attacks flying.
The Republican primary fight for South Carolina’s next governor is turning rough, with Congresswoman Nancy Mace taking aim at Attorney General Alan Wilson over his handling of violent crime cases.
Mace accused Wilson of striking light plea deals for offenders facing charges like child sexual abuse, rape, and murder.
“I have so many victims, they’re coming forward asking for my help,” Mace said Friday on the “Brian Kilmeade Show.”
“Because they’re not getting it from the attorney general.”
She recalled a case where a man accused of possessing child sexual abuse images got what she called a slap on the wrist after plea bargaining down from decades in prison to serving only one day in jail. Mace said she’s found other troubling deals like that and called the pattern “disturbing and alarming.”
Wilson denied her claims and defended his record, pointing to expanding resources to fight child exploitation and human trafficking.
“My office has quadrupled the size of the internet crimes against children task force,” he said on the same radio show.
“We have expanded the human trafficking task force. We are supporting local law enforcement moving backlogs,” he added.
He shrugged off Mace’s accusations as political attacks, saying, “She’s just throwing every single piece of mud she can in our general direction.”
The feud intensified after Mace accused Wilson’s office of ignoring serious sexual assault evidence. She said she personally gave info to law enforcement but claimed Wilson tried to bias potential jury members.
“I’m actually a key witness in an investigation right now where I provided information to law enforcement,” Mace said Friday.
“He’s trying to taint a jury pool for a future civil and or criminal case in the courts of South Carolina,” she added.
Wilson rejected her accusations, insisting that she never reported allegations to him. In a sharp statement he said, “Mace is a liar who will do anything to get attention to distract from her liberal voting record. I’ve served our country and dedicated my civilian career to protecting children.”
This race isn’t just about policy — it’s getting personal, fast. Both Republicans have a lot riding on voters’ trust in who will really fight for families’ safety.
Watch this showdown as it could signal the path forward for the GOP in South Carolina.
Wyatt Matters
The fight over law and order touches every home in the heartland. Folks want leaders who’ll put survivors and families first, not cut deals with lawbreakers. This kind of battle is what keeps politicians honest and puts public safety above all.
