January 1, Radioactive Waste Found at Elementary School

Parents of students at a Missouri elementary school were outraged after an independent report found “unacceptably high” levels of radioactive waste.

Jana Elementary School in Florissant, Missouri, is close to Coldwater Creek, where World War II weapons were dumped in the 1940s and 1950s, contaminating the area with radioactive waste. Last week, a report from Boston Chemical Data Corp. found that radioactive levels at the site were posing an “unacceptably high risk to the children.”

“I was heartbroken,” Jana Elementary PTA President Ashley Bernaugh told AP. “It sounds so cliché, but it takes your breath from you.”

The report found contamination inside classrooms, the school’s library, in the HVAC system, on the playground, and nearby fields. The new study was completed as part of a class-action lawsuit, brought by law firms seeking compensation for individuals who claim living near the creek caused illness or death.

Jana Elementary will switch to virtual learning for now, the Hazelwood School District’s board announced Tuesday. Students will be redistricted to other area schools after the Thanksgiving break.

At a packed meeting on Tuesday evening, the board apologized to parents and said it planned to work with legal counsel to ensure that the nuclear waste is cleaned up.

Parents expressed fury at the school district’s lack of transparency.

“I can get a call about a crayon or a pencil, but I can’t get a call (about nuclear waste)” said Kimberly Anderson, grandmother of three Jana Elementary students.

“In August, after bringing you this news, you all decided not to communicate this to our community. … I did. … Our PTA did,” said PTA President Ashley Bernaugh, according to local news station NBC 5 KSDK.

The Missouri Coalition for the Environment’s Christen Commuso said that Jana Elementary opened in the 1970s and thousands of children have been educated within its walls.

“You’re talking about kids throughout the decades who have been exposed to this,” Commuso said.

And these are the people to whom we trust the safety of American children! Cowards one and all.

School boards unfortunately are one of the biggest jokes in America. However no one is laughing. Most are nothing but unqualified hinge heads following the lead of one person such as their lawyer.

Since we’re on the verge of legalizing the murder of kids at birth and beyond, this may be the Left’s method of choice .
