January 1, Question to Harris About Who the ‘Real President’ Is Leads to Heated Exchange [Video]

Vice President Kamala Harris had a heated exchange with Charlamagne Tha God after he asked her to name the “real president.”

During an interview for Comedy Central’s Tha God’s Honest Truth, host Charlamagne Tha God asked: “So who’s the real president of this country? Is it Joe Manchin or Joe Biden, Madam Vice President?”

“Come on, Charlamagne,” Harris said. “Come on — it’s Joe Biden.”

“It’s Joe Biden,” Harris reiterated, talking over Charlamagne’s retorts. “And don’t start talking like a Republican about asking whether or not he’s president.”

“It’s Joe Biden,” Harris repeated, her voice rising. “And I’m vice president, and my name is Kamala Harris.”

Harris then highlights the Biden administration’s child tax credit, efforts to lower the price of prescription drugs and lower the mortality rate for Black mothers.

“So I hear the frustration, but let’s not deny the impact that we’ve had,” Harris said.

Charlamagne, real name Lenard McKelvey, praised the vice president’s forceful response, saying, “That Kamala Harris, that’s the one I like. That’s the one that was putting pressure on people in Senate hearings. That’s the one I’d like to see more often out here in these streets.”

Earlier in the interview, the Breakfast Club radio show host blasted Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.VA.), saying the centrist is “ruining the country” and “blocking progress.” Charlamagne said Democrats run the risk of losing the support of Black voters in the upcoming midterm elections because “the stuff [Manchin’s] holding up progress on are hurting people” and “hurting Black people in particular.”

Harris argued that infighting among Democrats isn’t the only factor contributing to stalled progress.

“Here’s the thing, though,” Harris said. “I think it’s a mistake to try and think about this only through the lens of Democrats versus Democrats when the fact is Republicans are consistently and unanimously standing in the way of progress.”
