Trans Psychologist Says Teen Transitions Have “Gone Too Far”

A trans psychologist who has assisted hundreds of teenagers make their own transitions is now warning that it’s “gone too far,” saying that many are making life-altering choices because it’s “trendy.”
Erica Anderson, 71, said she’s horrified that children as young as 13 are receiving hormone treatment without meeting with psychologists.
“I think it’s gone too far,” Anderson said.
“For a while, we were all happy that society was becoming more accepting and more families than ever were embracing children that were gender variant.
“Now it’s got to the point where there are kids presenting at clinics whose parents say, ‘This just doesn’t make sense,‘” she said.
Anderson’s concern is so severe that she’s now considering ending her work in the field of helping teens transition.
“I have these private thoughts: ‘This has gone too far. It’s going to get worse. I don’t want any part of it,’ ” she said.
“A fair number of kids are getting into it because it’s trendy,” Anderson said in a previous interview. “I think in our haste to be supportive, we’re missing that element.”
