January 1, Popular Grocery Store’s Food Contaminated with Hepatitis A

Trader Joe’s is warning customers that one of its fruit products was recalled over hepatitis concerns.

In an email to customers, the company said that Trader Joe’s Organic Tropical Fruit Blend could potentially be contaminated with Hepatitis A.

The company has already removed the product from its shelves and they’ve “destroyed” it and any others that could have potentially been affected. No illnesses had been reported as of Thursday, Trader Joe’s said.

The affected product has a SKU# of 51191 and a “best by” date of 4/25/24, 5/12/24, 5/23/24, 5/30/24, and 6/7/24.

Hepatitis A is a contagious virus that can cause liver disease. It typically occurs within 15 to 50 days after ingesting the contaminated food or beverage. Mild cases of the virus can last a few weeks while severe cases can go on for several months, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Hepatitis A is particularly harmful for those with pre-existing health conditions or weakened immune systems — where it can lead to liver failure and death.

The FDA says most people typically recover within one or two weeks, in most cases.

The sign in the photo over the fruit and vegetables section reflect the store ALDI ! My question, is Trader Joe’s connected or affiliated with ALDI? If not, why use this photo instead using Trader Joe’s?
