January 1, Planned Parenthood Locations Closing Across the Country
Wyatt’s Take
- Planned Parenthood shutting down clinics after losing taxpayer cash
- Abortions up, but real women’s health services way down
- Pro-life efforts and new laws put industry on the ropes
Planned Parenthood’s closing clinics across America, and it’s not just in conservative states. Even in places that cheer abortion, locations are shutting their doors, all because new laws pulled back taxpayer funds. The trend started after President Trump signed a bill that put an end to federal money propping up abortion outfits through Medicaid. Since then, 41 spots are gone or on the way out, with rumors of up to 200 closures total.
Planned Parenthood didn’t like losing that government money and ran straight to court, saying they deserved those taxpayer dollars to keep doing abortions. Pro-life leader Marjorie Dannenfelser called them out, saying, “Planned Parenthood should look in the mirror for the reason their centers are shuttering. Even corporate media admit the abortion giant prioritizes political activism and lawsuits over health care.” She also added that women already have better options, noting, “They have no monopoly on health, as women already go to community health centers that provide much more comprehensive care and are more accessible, outnumbering Planned Parenthoods 15:1 nationwide.”
But even with a federal judge—someone President Obama picked—blocking some of these defunding moves, the closures keep coming. Judge Indira Talwani argued that cutting off funds would “threaten an increase in unintended pregnancies and attendant complications because of reduced access to effective contraceptives, and an increase in undiagnosed and untreated STIs.” Still, critics say these judges care more about politics than law, going around Congress and the president to keep the abortion money flowing.
Pro-abortion folks claim Planned Parenthood is all about women’s healthcare. But the facts tell a different story. Cancer screenings, prenatal services, and contraception are all down big since 2013—breast exams dropped 61%, pap tests down 54%, prenatal care down 63%. At the same time, abortions keep climbing. In 2022-2023, Planned Parenthood performed over 402,000 abortions—a record, and 23% more than just a decade ago.
The money played a huge part in this. When that federal cash stopped, clinics in states like California started losing millions. The San Mateo Health Center alone lost $1.7 million in just one week, with more pain on the way.
And the closures aren’t only in states where abortion’s illegal. Pro-abortion places—California, Illinois, New York—are also losing clinics, even after they tried luring out-of-state business. Meanwhile, other clinics in states like Indiana used to help women travel out of state for abortions, but those, too, are getting shut down.
No one’s sure just how many lives are being saved by all these closings. But if clinics keep disappearing and abortions go down, that’s bound to make a difference over time.
Wyatt Matters
In the heartland, we believe life is sacred from the start. Watching Planned Parenthood locations close—especially when they’re more interested in politics than true care—makes it clear that our voices are being heard. Real women’s health means real care, not just more abortions. Good folks in the middle of America are trusting their neighbors and community clinics, not the big abortion industry. That’s real progress.
