January 1, Oscar Winner Pleads Guilty
Oscar-winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr. pleaded guilty to one count of forcible touching.
The 54-year-old also issued a public apology for the first time to two other women who accused him of forcibly kissing or touching them, saying he’s a “celebrity figure” who meant no harm.
“I apologize for making anybody ever feel inappropriately touched,” he said. “I am a celebrity figure. I come into contact with people. I never want them to feel slighted or uncomfortable in any way.”
The move comes as part of a plea deal, which could keep Gooding out of jail. Additionally, Gooding must complete six more months of alcohol and behavior modification treatment and have no new arrests.
If the Jerry McGuire star complies with the terms of the deal, he can withdraw the plea and instead plead to harassment with a sentence of time served.
