January 1, Omnibus Spending Bill Earmarks $3.6M for “Michelle Obama Trail”
ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY…
1943: U.S. President FDR appoints General Eisenhower Supreme Commander of the Allied forces.
Republican lawmakers raised concerns over a provision in the massive $1.7 trillion omnibus spending bill that allots funding for a hiking trail named after former first lady Michelle Obama.
The 4,155-page bill, which was unveiled on Tuesday, includes more aid to Ukraine, $858 billion for defense, and roughly $772.5 billion for non-defense programs.
Some lawmakers have publicly spoken out against some of the bill’s provisions, namely the $3.6 allotted for the “Michelle Obama Trail—PATH Trail Project.”
Rep. Dan Bishop (R-N.C.) called attention to the earmark in a Twitter thread of “the most egregious provisions in the bill.”

Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) vowed to vote against the measure.
“I will vote against the radical Biden omnibus, which includes ‘woke’ nonsense like a $3.6 million ‘Michelle Obama Trail’ in Georgia,” she tweeted. “Why are Senate Republicans voting for this?”
Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) also decried the bill, tweeting: “The Democrats’ reckless omnibus bill spends YOUR money on a ‘Michelle Obama Trail,’ a ‘Ukraine Independence Park’ in DC, and a ‘Speaker Pelosi Federal Building’ in San Francisco. Are you ok with all of this?”
Sen. Mike Braun (R-IN) said that he would “be voting to strip every earmark out of this bill.”
“Would you spend $2 million on a wax museum? How about $3.6 million on the ‘Michelle Obama Trail?’ Well, you’re about to. These are two earmarks in the omnibus spending bill that will become law this week,” he wrote on Twitter.

Until a person is DEAD – NO government program or project should be named after that person — All the true crap comes out within a year or so after their death! And definitely nothing in Georgia should be named after any OBAMA!

re-read the article. it is about spending. for something that benefits no one. or do you not pay taxes?? those of us that pay what we owe dont want to see blind throwing away of money on nothing. those who have no skin in the game have no say.

Politicians seem to have forgotten what there job description is.
Voting party lines is not a requirement. Removing nonessential items from a Bill is not Unamerican.

maybe they know something we don’t. here’s hoping. why name a trail after a questionable person of no consequence when that person hates America????? why are we supporting Ukraine? so bribems trail of corruption can be covered up????? that money should go to making everyday Americans life better. the shadow president is very busy getting his “wants” done before the house makes him and the pResident lame ducks. our veterans shouldn’t be on the streets of America that they fought and were willing to die for. they should all have housing. it is criminal how they are treated. the border patrol agents need more funding. we need more agents to stem the flow of illegals that one party here thinks will be their voting base for all eternity. fix America, then if anything left, give to others in need. I dont think Ukraine is needy at this moment.

Opposing a ridiculous and wasteful bill is not racist. I don’t care who is pushing for it to pass, it is another nail in America’s coffin.

Why would they want to spend that kind of money on a trail for Michael. The only trail that should be made would be one back to Africa where they belong. They should use the money for the US citizens that are homeless.
