January 1, NYC Struggles Under $2.3 Billion Migrant Housing Burden Amid Rising Criticism

As New York City grapples with a massive crisis, officials are reportedly aiming to secure thousands of hotel rooms for illegal migrants, intensifying the strain on the city’s resources. According to the New York Post, the city’s Department of Homeless Services is negotiating contracts with local hotels to provide approximately 14,000 rooms for migrants through 2025. This move is set to push the city’s spending on migrant housing to a staggering total of over $2.3 billion for the current fiscal year and the past two years combined.

Critics are already raising alarms about the unsustainable burden this places on taxpayers. Nicole Gelinas from the Manhattan Institute put it bluntly: “The taxpayers can’t pay for this indefinitely.” She urged officials to cease using hotels as shelters by the end of the year.

With expenditures on migrant services predicted to soar to $5.76 billion over the next three years, New Yorkers are witnessing their city being overwhelmed. Currently, about 150 hotels are accommodating migrants, with the cost per room averaging $352 per night. Meanwhile, the city’s response to inquiries about this crisis remains nonexistent, as the Department of Homeless Services stays silent.

The migrant influx has surpassed 200,000 individuals since spring 2022, leading Mayor Eric Adams to enforce 5% budget cuts across government programs in a desperate bid to cover the soaring costs of housing and services. In a candid statement, Adams warned, “This issue will destroy New York City,” citing the looming $12 billion deficit that threatens to impact every city service.

As tensions rise, Adams, facing potential legal challenges, accused the Justice Department of targeting him for speaking out about immigration issues. This came amid the city’s ongoing struggle with its sanctuary laws, which limit cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities. Efforts to roll back these laws have stumbled in the City Council, despite high-profile incidents underscoring the dangers of unregulated migration.

New Yorkers are facing the harsh reality of a city stretched thin, with illegal migration threatening not only their financial resources but the very fabric of their communities.

But it’s OK with him for other cities to get these unwanted hoards of illegals as long as they don’t come to NYC.

That is because the leadership in NY is STUPID ENOUGH to continue to pay for it. If you sent their SORRY BUTTS HOME you could save the STATE a ton of money. Maybe that would help offset all the business that are leaving the BIG APPLE. The only people they are going to have pay for all the illegals are the hard work people that are left. Hope most of them get out while they can.

These ILLEGAL ALIENS are not wanted here in the USA! Why do we have to worry where to house them at taxpayers’ money? Send them home, DEPORT THEM! That’s why they come to the USA because of what they can get from our country. They can not VOTE so why does the Administration go out of their way to accommodate them? If they become homeless, then that’s the problem of the State who wants them. When there’s way too much homeless people, these ILLEGAL ALIENS will stop coming to the USA!
