January 1, NYC Residents Fume as Trash Mounts After Snow

Wyatt’s Take

  • Trash and snow are causing a mess in New York City neighborhoods.
  • Many locals say city leaders are ignoring regular folks’ problems.
  • Patience is running thin as delays drag on after the big snowfall.

New Yorkers are speaking out after a winter storm left mountains of garbage piling up across the city. Sanitation trucks are behind schedule, and folks are tired of waiting for basic services to get back to normal.

While some neighborhoods are buried under trash and plowed-in cars, city officials say pickups will be late as they focus on clearing snow. Many are feeling left behind, especially after seeing that some city blocks near officials’ homes are already cleaned up.

One resident described the mess as “so gross, it’s disgusting,” complaining the trash pile outside his home is bigger than a car. Another asked why garbage can’t get picked up when the buses are still running and the rest of the city carries on.

Sanitation leaders say trash and compost are their top priority for now, urging people to be patient as they work through delays. Crews are out every day, but the problems are stretching into a new week with no end in sight for some.

Residents are growing frustrated, feeling ignored by those in charge. They want solutions, not more excuses, as the streets stay crowded with garbage.

Is this what big-city leadership has come to—letting working people deal with filth while the top brass enjoy clean sidewalks?

Wyatt Matters

When city leaders lose touch, it’s regular Americans who suffer. No one in Middle America should have to put up with neglect while officials look the other way. Strong communities depend on honest work and real service for everyone, not just the well-connected.

You asked for it. Now you know what socialism is all about.

I notice that the same people who are bitching haven’t bothered to clear their steps, their porches, their sidewalks or their cars. Sit down and shut up.

That was my first reaction just looking at that photo shown, with the line of cars still not cleared of snow and now it is over a week later, and that’s a 2 way street too. Granted the trash collections would now this week be back to normal after the delays of last week, but that snow removal is atrocious, especially since NYC hired workers to shovel the snow on city sidewalks–but now the questions “which city sidewalks”. Considering that it is required to clear all snow off sidewalks within 2 hours of the end of the snow storm and off the city streets within 24 hours after the end of the snowstorm. Remember those DPW workers get great salaries and are highly compensated with OT for all their efforts, BUT, did we suddenly lose a whole lot of plow trucks and sanitation trucks somewhere in NYC.

Right. And why are they putting out their trash at a time when it can’t be removed; that’s just stupid.

But I bet trash removal is free now. See how it works?

Just to have all of the garbage bagged will be helpful. Trash laying on the ground is not acceptable, but then trashy people throw trash.

“You asked for it, you got it, New York – (previous Toyota slogan). Very fitting. Stop your bitching, this is what you asked for so clean up your own backyard. No sympathy here. My street is clean, clear of snow, garbage picked up weekly, but then we didn’t vote for socialism.

You’re absolutely right. All the brainless liberals who want communism because it’s so great. Now get a taste of how it really works. Just wait until you get your new taxes. Affordability under communism is BS. Crying about your own stupidity won’t help you fix this mess. You should all be celebrating like when Mumdani was elected.

I’m sorry, but NYC voted in a socialist! See how getting everything free works?! And now you’re stuck! Unfortunately more people will follow suit and fall for all of the empty promises! Anyone who’s ever lived in a socialist/communist government knows these facts! You didn’t want to listen to anyone who warned you about this was shunned! You get what you vote for!

Anyone here want to bet that the Mayor’s residence had no problem with either trash pickups or snow removal. I would also bet any of his socialist buddies had no problems either. Only the fools that voted for him are now suffering and will continue to suffer.

If we were a less wasteful city and recycled properly (including food and textile waste), we wouldn’t have so many black plastic garbage bags in the first place. If we could just get people to divert all the food waste and textile waste alone, (through already existing programs), we would have 50% fewer black bags off the street tomorrow. Not sure why New Yorkers discard perfectly reusable items when there are many people willing to rehome them. If Mamdani cares about making NYC a more affordable city and waste management, he could create a new agency to manage waste that isn’t actually waste – just no longer wanted. As NYC taxpayers we pay almost $500M/year exporting waste to overburdened communities which increases every year making great profits for waste management and other companies. Would much rather use that money to build expanded local infrastructure to process more of the non-waste locally, creating jobs and helping New Yorkers in need. I am hoping that Mamdani connects the dots and realizes the need to rethink our waste management systems

So, what do you New Yorkers who voted for Mamdani think now?? Time for a recall vote against him, I should think!
