New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) issued a subpoena to Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump, requiring their testimony as part of the state’s civil investigation into the family’s businesses.

The attorney general’s office subpoenaed former President Donald Trump last month. The revelation that his children had also been subpoenaed came from a court filing made public on Monday. All three subpoenas were served on Dec. 1.

Additionally, the attorney general’s office already questioned Eric Trump in October 2020. When Trump became president in 2017, he turned the business over to his two sons and the company’s chief financial officer, Allen H. Weisselberg.

James’ civil investigation is focused on tax affairs at the Trump Organization, specifically whether assets were inflated or understated to influence tax valuations.

The former president filed a lawsuit against James last month to end the investigation, alleging that the inquiry violated his constitutional rights and was politically motivated. The filing called the probe a “thinly-veiled effort to publically malign Trump and his associates.”
