A brutal assault on three Marines at a California beach during the Memorial Day weekend has led to the arrest of nine teenagers, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. The assault, which was captured on video and circulated widely, shocked the community and led to a swift law enforcement response.

Authorities announced that four male and one female minor were charged with assault with a deadly weapon and are currently held at the juvenile hall. Additionally, four other minors face charges of misdemeanor assault and battery. Due to their status as minors, the identities of the suspects remain confidential.

San Clemente Mayor Chris Duncan shared that authorities believe they have apprehended the main suspects involved in the ruthless attack. The group of teenagers was part of a larger group of up to 40 individuals who confronted the Marines near the Pier Bowl.

Utilizing video footage of the attack, investigators were able to track down those responsible. Mayor Duncan expressed hope that this incident would serve as a lesson for the community’s youth, warning that in the current digital age, inappropriate and criminal behavior is likely to be caught on camera.

The conflict began when the Marines asked the group of teenagers to stop setting off fireworks, after a piece of debris struck one of them in the face. According to Marine Hunter Antonino, the disclosure of their military status did not dissuade the group, who then began to physically and verbally assault the servicemen.

The footage of the incident shows the young men being forced to the ground, shielding their heads from a barrage of kicks, punches, and stomps from the teenagers. The attack only ceased when a man and a woman intervened and yelled at the group to stop.

Even if the servicemen decide against pressing charges, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department has committed to fully investigating the incident. The shocking assault has drawn national attention and underscores the importance of respecting our military servicemen and women, who dedicate their lives to safeguarding our freedoms.
