Five NFL teams declined to hold a moment of silence for Charlie Kirk after he was assassinated last week. The Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts, and Minnesota Vikings all chose not to participate.

The NFL allowed each team to make its own call on whether to honor Kirk. Some teams held the moment of silence before their games, while others did not.

Teams honoring Kirk included the Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, New York Jets, and Tennessee Titans.

Charlie Kirk had become a leading voice for conservatives at just 31 years old. He founded Turning Point USA, shaping debate on campuses and drawing young Americans to his message.

Kirk was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

The NFL has held tributes before, like in memory of Kobe Bryant or after tragedies at schools and places of worship.

The decision not to honor Kirk drew sharp lines about who and what matters in today’s America.
