January 1, Newborn Revived by Police Officers: CPR Saves Lifeless Baby

Two police officers from Alexandria, Virginia, managed to revive a newborn baby born without a heartbeat. The Alexandria Police Department received a frantic 911 call from a family seeking help when the baby was unexpectedly born lifeless.

Officers Hiltz and Reilly responded to the call and found the newborn not breathing in an apartment on Executive Avenue. They swiftly took charge of the situation.

Officer Hiltz performed CPR on the baby as Officer Reilly calmed the family. After two rounds of CPR, Officer Hiltz detected a pulse, and the baby started to cry.

The infant, named Luis IV, and his mother are now back home and doing well, following a brief stay in the neonatal intensive care unit. Officer Hiltz expressed his relief, saying, “It felt amazing to hear him cry. In that moment, all the stress and fear of the situation just left me.”

The police officers also enjoyed a visit with the baby and his parents. The Mayo Clinic states that CPR is a lifesaving technique that can be used to revive someone who has stopped breathing or lost their heartbeat.

It helps maintain the flow of oxygen-rich blood to the brain and other organs until emergency medical treatment can restore a normal heart rhythm.
