New York State Residents Alarmed By Gun Bans
Residents near New York’s Adirondack Mountains are alarmed by gun bans put in place by state lawmakers.
In June, the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark ruling established the right to carry weapons in public, making many gun enthusiasts upstate feel vindicated.
But that feeling of vindication didn’t last long.
New York Democratic lawmakers created a list of “sensitive” and “restricted” locations that designate large parts of the Adirondacks as gun-free zones.
The Supreme Court’s ruling had allowed for gun bans in places like schools or courthouses, but the New York state law takes things to the extreme. After Sept. 1, having a firearm in locations including hospitals, bars, concert venues, and parks will be a felony crime.
Adirondack Park is the largest park in the continental U.S., home to 130,000 people and a massive number of bobcats, beavers, rabbits — and bears.
“It pretty much means I’ve got to leave the firearm at home,” said Rick Bennett, whose house is in the middle of Adirondack Park.
Democrat Jeffrey Dinowitz, an assembly member from the Bronx, said the bill he co-sponsored was a measured response to an erroneous opinion by “highly politicized, right-wing justices.”
“A guy from the Bronx doesn’t have a clue what the Adirondack Park is,” said Jane Havens, a lifelong resident of the mountains.
Tom King, the president of the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association, said that residents had expressed concerns over the ruling.
“I have gotten hundreds of calls from people from the Adirondacks,” he said. “And all I can say is that there are going to be lawsuits.”

From my cold dead hands
This will never end. These elected/appointed officials don’t care about the Constitution or the people.
You folks that voted democrat deserve what you get! The politicians are only interested in power and controlling you. I live in The DPRC (AKA Known as the Democratic Peoples republic of California). I too feel your pain!
Exactly, I live in the peoples republic of New York where the 5 boroughs control the rest of the state. People who live in the polluted cement New York City control the elections and elect Democrats who control legislature that is completely out of touch with Southern, Central, and Northern New York. They live in a fantasy land.
