NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell has been ousted from his position after being accused of sexual harassment by CNBC anchor and senior international correspondent, Hadley Gamble.
The allegations were confirmed by Gamble’s lawyer, Suzanne McKie, who stated that the investigation into Mr. Shell arose from a complaint by her client of sexual harassment and sex discrimination.
NBCUniversal parent company, Comcast, confirmed that they terminated Shell after an investigation led by outside counsel into a complaint of inappropriate conduct.
According to reports, Shell admitted to having “an inappropriate relationship with a woman in the company,” which continued for around 11 years, sporadically up until a couple of years ago when it ended.
The company investigation was reportedly initiated after Gamble made a formal complaint about Shell’s behavior. The news of Shell’s dismissal has been shocking, given that he had worked at NBCUniversal for nearly two decades and had been serving as the chief executive since 2020.
Sources close to the matter have revealed that NBCUniversal fired Shell for cause and does not plan to pay him any severance.
Shell himself has expressed deep regret for his actions, saying that he was “truly sorry” for letting his colleagues at Comcast and NBCUniversal down.
Hadley Gamble, who has been with CNBC since 2010, has not made any public statements about the matter.
However, her bio on the network’s website describes her as an anchor and senior international correspondent with a focus on energy, geopolitics, and financial markets.
It remains to be seen what the long-term implications of this scandal will be for NBCUniversal and Comcast. However, it is clear that the company is taking the matter seriously and has acted swiftly to address the allegations of inappropriate conduct.
Jeff Shell’s behavior is inexcusable, and it is right that he has been held accountable for his actions.
