January 1, Michigan House Democrats Pass Bill Criminalizing “Wrong” Gender Pronouns
Democrats in Michigan’s state House have approved a controversial hate speech bill (HB 4474) that threatens residents with imprisonment and hefty fines for using incorrect gender pronouns.
This groundbreaking decision is causing an uproar among conservatives who see it as a violation of free speech.
The legislation, aiming to amend the Ethnic Intimidation Act, would criminalize individuals who, based on the person’s “gender identity or expression”, intimidate others intentionally and maliciously.
As it currently stands, those found guilty of this offense would face a felony charge, leading to up to two years in prison or a $5,000 fine.
State Rep. Andrew Fink (R) expressed concerns ahead of the vote, highlighting the grave risk that under this bill, unpopular opinions could become criminal offenses.
Fink warned, “As it is written, the risk that disfavored opinions will become criminal under this legislation is too severe.”
The bill’s critics also argue that the legislation is vague and leaves room for subjective interpretation.
The penalties are based on the alleged victims’ feelings of intimidation, a standard that critics say could have a chilling effect on free speech, especially for those who reject the LGBT community’s preferred pronoun usage.
State Rep. Noah Arbit (D), an LGBT activist and the bill’s proposer, dismisses these concerns, defining “gender identity or expression” as “having or being perceived as having a gender-related self-identity or expression whether or not associated with an individual’s assigned sex at birth.”
William Wagner, a distinguished professor emeritus at Cooley Law School and a former U.S. magistrate judge, argues that proponents of the bill could weaponize these policies to silence conservative expression.
“Make no mistake about it. Those advocating for this legislation will wield these policies as a weapon capable of destroying conservative expression or viewpoints grounded in the sacred,” warned Wagner.
Aside from potential weaponization, critics argue that the law is unconstitutional.
According to Wagner, the bill determines what is criminal “after the action,” which is a direct violation of the due process required by the Constitution.
Despite the uproar from conservatives, Democrats initially intended to make the bill even more punitive.
An early draft of the bill removed the requirement for the intimidation to be intentional and malicious and allowed victims to seek damages of $25,000 for “severe mental anguish,” even if the offender had been acquitted in court.
State Rep. Angela Rigas (R) denounced the bill, stating, “The state of Michigan is now explicitly allowing the gender delusion issue to be used as a ‘protected class’. This opens up numerous issues when it comes to the courts and the continued weaponization of the system against conservatives.”
Bottom Line
If the bill is approved by the Michigan state Senate, it will go to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s (D) desk. Whitmer is expected to sign the bill into law.

If I can lose my rights and my freedom simply by speaking the truth, this is no longer the America intended by the Founding Fathers and guaranteed by the Constitution. I fail to see the logic in this, even by the Left’s twisted worldview, unless it’s part of an effort by the Dems to force all the non-crazies out of Michigan and deliver it solidly into the hands of the Democratic Party before the next election. Or, perhaps, it’s just revenge politics. Something has to be done to bring these people under control!

Conversely, can I drag someone into court because having to use those pronouns offends me? What if someone tells me I’m not pretty enough to be Miss America? Courtroom? Or if someone says there is no God? When someone says they are pro abortion, that deeply offends me. Imagine the possibilities. The only silver lining may be if this finally convinces the good, sane people of Michigan to get rid of Witmer if she does indeed sign this insanity.

I do not live in Mi. I worked around Flat Rock for 14 weeks in 1972. There were carjackings with the drivers being shot in the head, You were warned about going into the parks in daytime. As far as democrats in general & Michigan in particular my pronouns are FUCK YOU!!
