Michelle Obama Makes a Dig at Donald Trump
Former first lady Michelle Obama took an apparent dig at former President Donald Trump during remarks at the White House this week.
The Obamas were at the White House on Wednesday to attend the unveiling of their official White House portraits. During the former first lady’s remarks, she talked about how such events are significant because they promote a peaceful transition of power between American presidents.
“You see, the people that make their voices heard with their vote. We hold an inauguration to ensure a peaceful transition of power,” Obama said at the ceremony.
“Those of us lucky enough to serve work, as Barack said, as hard as we can for as long as we can, as long as the people choose to keep us here. And, once our time is up, we move on. And all that remains in this hallowed place are our good efforts and these portraits,” she said.
Many interpreted the “once our time is up, we move on” comment as a dig at Trump, her husband’s successor.
According to CNN, the White House Historical Association is in the “beginning stages” of creating portraits of Trump and former first lady Melania Trump.
