1847: Michigan becomes the 1st English-speaking jurisdiction to abolish the death penalty (except for treason against the state).

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) said she she was “attacked” by an “insane woman” while dining at a restaurant on Monday night.

“I was attacked in a restaurant tonight by an insane women and screamed at by her adult son,” Greene tweeted. “They had no respect for the restaurant or the staff or the other people dining or people like me who simply have different political views.”

“They are self righteous, insane, and completely out of control,” she added.

Greene said she was sitting at a table and working with her staff, and didn’t notice “these people until they turned into demons.”

A spokesperson for Greene provided a statement to various media outlets, saying that the staff had been working on preparation for upcoming committee hearings when the incident occurred.

At first, the woman “introduced herself politely” but then she “started berating” Greene as her son “started screaming expletives at the top of his lungs and came closer.”

“I had to get in between him and the table because I had no clue what he’d do,” the spokesperson said, adding that the woman’s adult son carried on screaming while his mother “continued to berate” Greene.

Restaurant staff ultimately made the woman and her son leave, the spokesperson said. The staff “apologized” and moved Greene’s group to a more private table. The police were not called.

Neither Greene nor her spokesperson specified the restaurant where the incident took place.

“The congresswoman deserves to be able to eat at a restaurant in peace. And giving the location would only make the restaurant a target and encourage people to look for her there,” the spokesperson said.

In her tweet, Greene noted, “People used to respect others even if they had different views. But not anymore. Our country is gone.”

Greene recently kicked up a controversy by calling for a “national divorce” between red and blue states.

“We need a national divorce. We need to separate by red states and blue states and shrink the federal government,” Greene tweeted last week. “From the sick and disgusting woke culture issues shoved down our throats to the Democrat’s traitorous America Last policies, we are done.”

This isn’t the first time Greene has dealt with ire from the public as a member of Congress.

Earlier this month, a man in New York pleaded guilty to leaving Greene several threatening voicemails last year. In the messages, he threatened to cause her “physical harm” and “pay someone 500 bucks to take a baseball bat and crack your skull.”
