January 1, Manchin Blasts Democrats Over Kirk Vote Fallout
Wyatt’s Take
- Joe Manchin says Democrats are losing touch with regular Americans.
- Far-left lawmakers refused to honor Charlie Kirk after his murder.
- Democrats keep losing support after divisive actions like this.
Senator Joe Manchin did not hold back after Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez spoke out against the resolution to honor Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated. Manchin says this is just the latest sign that the Democratic Party is moving farther away from middle America.
He told CNN that “it’s getting worse, not better,” when it comes to the way Democrats act in Washington. Manchin called out the extreme left for pushing everyday folks away from the party, noting that more than 160,000 Democrats have left since November’s election. He said, “That’ll tell you why you lost people like me, and an awful lot.”

Several Democrats refused to back the resolution, including Mikie Sherrill, Bennie Thompson, and Pramila Jayapal. Instead of honoring Kirk, they called it a political stunt and voted no.
My statement on the House vote on the Charlie Kirk resolution.

Today, I voted against the Charlie Kirk Resolution.
While I condemn his violent murder, this resolution sought to elevate Charlie Kirk as a role model.
I could not support in good conscience.

Charlie Kirk’s death is a tragedy, and I condemn all political violence from wherever it comes.
House Republicans designed today’s resolution as a political “gotcha” — one that attempts to put words in my mouth to endorse Kirk’s views.
I cannot do that, so I voted “no.”
