Wyatt’s Take

  • Bill Maher claims most Americans never read the Constitution.
  • He says people treat it like a sacred symbol, not as real law.
  • Maher criticizes media obsession over Trump’s White House remodel.

On his show “Real Time,” comedian Bill Maher argued the Constitution has become more of a symbol than a rulebook. He said, “Is the Constitution now really, let’s be honest, just like the Bible, just a sacred old text that everyone name-drops with reverence, but no one actually reads or even feels bad about ignoring.”

Maher poked fun at conservatives for carrying pocket Constitutions, likening them to “iPhone user agreements written in parchment.” He argued that if Americans don’t follow what’s in the Constitution, it stops being law and instead becomes just another relic.

He also criticized President Trump’s use of tariffs, saying any benefits come at the cost of ignoring the Constitution. Maher, an atheist, said, “If you say you love this thing, but you don’t obey it, you’ve never read it, and you don’t even care what’s in it, it’s not the law anymore. It’s just another Bible.”

Later, Maher blasted media coverage about Trump remodeling the White House East Wing into a ballroom. He said, “The ballroom, I don’t give a s—. I really don’t give a s—.” He knocked the news for always taking sides and pointed out that previous changes have been made to the White House too.

Maher added that state dinners are held in tents, so a ballroom may make sense, especially since it’s being paid for with private money. “They’re doing it in a tent! This is America!” he remarked.

This all comes as mainstream outlets hammer Trump for the redesign, while ignoring that taxpayers won’t be on the hook for the expense.

Don’t lose sight of the real issues. Our founding values matter, and so does honesty about who’s paying for what in D.C.

Wyatt Matters

Everyday Americans know rules only work if folks stick to them. When leaders and media treat our founding documents as empty props, it chips away at the values that hold us together.

Hey Bill Maher, without the Constitution, you wouldn’t be able to say even half of your rhetoric freely. It would be at the whim of whoever is in charge.
