January 1, Looters Arrested Amid Hurricane Ian Chaos

Published

on

Police in Florida arrested a group of people for looting in an area of Fort Meyers that had been devastated by Hurricane Ian.

Local reporter Gage Goulding shared a video showing five handcuffed suspects sitting on the beach.

“Sheriff’s deputies told me Thursday afternoon these people were arrested for looting on Fort Myers Beach,” Goulding tweeted.

Local authorities warned that looters may take advantage after Hurricane Ian left numerous buildings partially destroyed and exposed.

Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno had previously warned against taking advantage of “this horrific event,” saying his jurisdiction would have zero tolerance for such behavior.

“For any of those individuals that think they are going to go out there and loot or prey on people during this horrific event — you better think twice,” Marceno said. “When I say zero tolerance, zero tolerance means we will hunt you down, track you down, and you’re going to jail. If you’re lucky.”

I grew up in Miami…….where the salt air was sweet, the white sugar sand was fun to play in, and while my brother
and I would laugh and run into the small waves, watching the Pelicans fly over head, our Mother would watch us and laugh with joy ( life was good).
Sometimes we could smell the rich Cuban food, and how lucky we felt to be here in America!!!
My mother had immigrated from Spain, and for her this place was as close to home, with all its colors, foods and
diversity of people. But just these few years later, the beauty, the music, the joy was gone….It looked the same, same Beach, same sand, same Palms, but there was a “hole” now, like you get in your heart, when someone dies.!
There is so much anger in the streets now, especially a city like Miami, known for it’s music, its beauty, its friendliness, Where had it all gone………..
Yes time changes everything, but not this much, when you are small you always think you can come back, and find it all the same. But now it’s like an “old time movie set”, where from the front it’s still the same, but when you look behind there is nothing but empty cardboard….nothing is real now, the people smile, but there is no light in their eyes.
When we would run to the Palms after a Hurricane, to get Coconuts, people laughing, working, helping each other, again (joy), and Miami had so much of it to give.
Where has it all gone, there is ugliness that seeps slowly almost imperceptibly, when time goes by and no one is
watching, but (THEY) are, watching (you), that is!!! the only thing they know…..
Steal, break, damage, destroy, take whatever they want, why not ( no one is watching…..)!!
Some time somewhere all of us need to start , (watching), and making an effort to bring back the joy we had here
    in America…
    Born in the USA

The Governor could/should have issued a general emergency declaration that looters would be declared “outlaws” and could be shot on sight.

They are breaking the law and should be punished . It has to be stopped at the beginning and they should be charged and be held accountable for their actions. They know what they are doing. This behavior should not be encouraged. —- violence promotes more violence.

THIS IS A TIME OF GREAT PERAL AND PEOPLE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE SUFFERING SHOULD BE SHOT ON SIGHT, NO DIFFERENT THAN A RABID ANIMAN

This is what happens when these kids see the “grownups” spewing this defund the police BS. Police are concerned, no afraid, that their life and livelihood will go away in an instant if they should have to shoot or injure one of these people (and we all know who they are) who are breaking the law. I am afraid that we are lost and the bright and fun days are over and unfortunately we let that happen. Folks, vote for those people who will demand and support the rule of law instead of being afraid. Want to know why people are buying guns? People are afraid for their lives because the police will not show up.
