January 1, Klobuchar Eyes Governor Seat Amid Scandal Storm
Wyatt’s Take
- Sen. Amy Klobuchar is thinking about running for Minnesota governor, with Gov. Walz stepping down in disgrace.
- Both Democrats face accusations of political mishandling and ties to big scandals.
- Klobuchar’s past dealings and campaign cash connections raise major trust issues.
Governor Walz decided to end his bid for reelection after backlash over a Somali fraud case. This crisis has left room for Sen. Amy Klobuchar to step in, with some reports saying she might even help Walz get a Senate spot if she wins.
Klobuchar reportedly met with Walz to talk about her taking his place. Word is, party insiders want to clear the path for her so she can reward Walz by appointing him to the U.S. Senate.
Klobuchar doesn’t have to leave the Senate unless she wins the governor’s seat since her current term runs until 2030. But her own record has drawn new heat, with reports showing she avoided prosecuting Tom Petters, a Minnesota Ponzi schemer, when she was a top county prosecutor in the 1990s.
Petters’ companies and their employees donated thousands to Klobuchar’s campaigns.
“She took Ponzi money to get elected,” said Richard Hettler, a co-conspirator in the Petters scandal.
Author Peter Schweizer pointed out, “When [Tom Petters] finally got arrested by the FBI, one of the first calls he made was to Amy Klobuchar, who recommended the lawyer that he ended up hiring.” Petters is now behind bars with a fifty-year sentence.
Klobuchar has also caught flak for pushing cash handouts to Democrat-friendly news giants through her Journalism Competition and Preservation Act. She paints herself as a moderate but sides with far-left causes and big corporate donors more than most folks know.
She joins in with Bernie Sanders nearly 90 percent of the time and racks up donations from big business, often rewarding them with favorable bills. So far, Klobuchar hasn’t made any public statement about her bid to replace Walz.
Working families in the Midwest shouldn’t have to choose between two politicians with so much baggage and backroom deals. Middle America deserves honest leadership, not more favors for the well-connected.
Wyatt Matters
This kind of backdoor dealing and scandal is what drives folks in the Heartland to demand real change. Everyday Minnesotans need leaders who look out for their interests, not their own careers or political friends.
