January 1, Just In: New State Bolsters Rights with 29th Constitutional Carry Law

Published

South Carolina has taken a bold step in bolstering the rights of its citizens by becoming the 29th state to pass the constitutional carry law. The state’s Senate gave its approval to the constitutional carry conference report on Wednesday, setting the stage for Governor Henry McMaster (R-SC) to sign it into law on Thursday.

This legislation, once signed, will be effective immediately, reinforcing the rights of South Carolinians to bear arms as stipulated in the Second Amendment.

The journey to this point started on March 5, when the constitutional carry law was passed by the House. A legislative committee, composed of three House and three Senate members, took up the task of refining the bill. After their diligent work, the bill was released via a conference report.

The conference report then went through the legislative process, gaining approval from the state House on Tuesday and the state Senate on Wednesday. The final step in this process will be the signing of the constitutional carry law by Governor McMaster. This will take place during a private signing ceremony on Thursday, with a ceremonial, non-private signing set to occur at a future date.

South Carolina now joins the ranks of the other 28 constitutional carry states. These include Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming. It’s worth noting that Louisiana’s constitutional carry law will take effect on July 4, 2024.

Why It Matters (op-ed)

South Carolina’s decision to become the 29th constitutional carry state demonstrates the strength and determination of the conservative movement. It’s refreshing to see states taking proactive steps to protect their citizens’ Second Amendment rights.

The passage of this legislation highlights the importance of electing leaders who prioritize the Constitution and individual liberties. As more states follow suit, we can hope to see a continued resurgence in American values.

With Louisiana’s constitutional carry law set to take effect in 2024, it’s only a matter of time before other states recognize the importance of restoring our fundamental rights. Let’s celebrate this victory and continue fighting for a strong, conservative America.

As one of four who all fought in Vietnam, where two brothers returned, and two uncles who were brothers didn’t I’m glad to see people stand-up for their rights, the rights we fought to preserve for the people of this country. This fight ain’t about guns, it’s about freedom and rights of the individual. Guns don’t kill, the wielder does. Parameters can be worked out as to who can and who cannot wield it. But remember it ain’t no toy, and bullets don’t care who they hit.
